Night Note: WWWWW Is The New LOL
So, weve decided. “lol” AKA “Laugh Out Loud” is dead. Weve killed it. All the cool kids read: Plunkett, McWhertor, me have ditched the “lol.” Its kinda hard to type. Well, not that hard, but still. And “ha”? That actually is too hard to type. Were going with “wwwww” or any of its variants: WwWwWw, WwwwW, wWwWw, WWwww, etc… The five Ws is purely arbitrary — more is welcomed Those who spend time on the Japanese internet recognize the “wwwww” as being short for “warau” 笑う, the Japanese verb for laugh. So “wwwww” is the equivalent of “lol”. The nice part about it is that its flexible. Meaning? If something is really funny, you can go “wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.” But if something is kinda funny, a “wwww” is fine. That is easier to type than “lolololololol,” and like I said, its flexible. LOL? Gone, done and dusted.

It’s the game of the century, the video game that the super-sleek PlayStation 3 was built for and the thing that has XBox 360 owners more excited than the prospect of losing their respective virginities. It is of course Grand Theft Auto 4.
Don’t worry though, Hampstr isn’t about to start a moral crusade for or against the pixelated mobster antics, but just direct you to one small part of the exquisitely crafted false universe in which the game lives, built with lashings of top British-grade cynicism. Go on, read all about the BS - sorry, the BitterSweet. You know you want one.

Sneezecount is one man’s attempt to count and document each sneeze he, er, sneezes. He’s been doing it since July 2007.

You often see blog posts with photos of unboxing Apple’s latest gizmo, or other posh hardware you just can’t afford. Well you can’t afford this either - it’s California’s Computer History Museum’s unboxing of a replica of Charles Babbage’s difference engine.

Normally my twitter followers are a, fairly, sane bunch of humans - but today I’ve been watching then all turn to toons. Today has been declared ‘Twitter Cartoon Day’ -
“Brighten up the lives of your fellow Twitterers today by changing your avatar (picture) to a cartoon character.”

This is gorgeous.
via Inhabitat:
With alternative lighting solutions becoming a typical consideration in sustainable interior design, Jonas Samson’s illuminated wallpaper is set to take the Salone Internazionale del Mobile and its design junkies by storm. A clever mix of the graphic, textile-inspired papers of the recent-past and organic technologies of the future, his light-emitting wallpaper happily straddles the fence between kiddie night-light and inventive design feature. It’s eco-credentials: turning a two-dimensional surface into a light source versus the traditional bulb/lamp construct.

To propose to his girlfriend Tammy Li, Bernie Peng wrote a game (from scratch!) for her Nintendo DS. After she reached a certain score, the screen cleared and a ring dropped down (she said yes).
